"Artek" welcomes children from more than 50 countries for the first time since 2020

The International Children's Center is launching the eighth Artek "Add to Friends!" shift, which will take place from July 15 to August 5.  Its participants - 3,194 children from more than 50 countries - are rushing to Artek from different corners of the globe. These are schoolchildren from all 89 regions of the Russian Federation, as well as children from Germany, Sweden, Qatar, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, India, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Abkhazia, Belarus, France, Australia and other countries.

"Artek is a unique place of friendship for children from all over the world, a recognized center of children's diplomacy. The eighth international shift is dedicated to friendship and personal development of children. Children from more than 50 countries will be immersed in an atmosphere that motivates them to new victories. The children will be able to show their best qualities and abilities, get acquainted with cultural traditions of different countries. They will learn to believe in their abilities and trust each other. I am convinced that genuine and sincere friendship between children from different countries can become a guarantee of peace in the world", - says Konstantin Fedorenko, Director of Artek.

The content of the international shift is a variety of creative activities aimed at transforming knowledge and creative abilities into the potential for self-development of students.

For example, on July 18, the finals of the All-Russian contest "Big Break" for pupils of 5-7 grades will start in Artek. The main project of the Russian Movement of Children and Youth "Movement of the First" will gather 700 schoolchildren from all over Russia in the children's center. Also among the contenders for the main prizes are more than 300 representatives of foreign countries, whose trip to Artek became possible thanks to the active participation of Rossotrudnichestvo. Participation of young compatriots living abroad will be a unique chance not only to acquire new skills and get unforgettable emotions from their stay in Crimea, but also to find new friends from Russia and other countries. The winners will be announced at the Artek Arena on July 21.

Within the framework of the 8th shift on July 30 the opening of the International Children's Forum "Artek Gathers Friends" will take place, which will last until August 2. During the forum the children will take part in the Festival of National Cultures "The Language of the World - the Language of Friendship", in the national days in children's camps, get acquainted with the informative program "Meet My Country!". There will be a social gala "Under the arches of the Palace" and an international sportland "The energy of sport - the energy of friendship".

August 2 will be held under the sign of "Russia Day". One of the key events of the shift will be the round table "Friends of Russia Club", where the children will discuss the achievements of Russian diplomacy, its history and modernity, will hold a dialogue of cultures as a basis for mutual understanding and cooperation, will talk about cooperation between public organizations and movements of children and youth. The round table will result in a Manifesto of Friendship prepared and adopted by the young Artek students.

The City of Masters "Multinational Palette of Russia" (August 2) will be a landmark event of the shift, embodying the idea of friendship between peoples and emphasizing respect for cultural diversity. In addition, Artek students from different regions who have turned 14 will receive their first passports of citizens of the Russian Federation.

The content of the 8th shift program is also determined by the Year of the Teacher and Mentor - during the shift schoolchildren will take part in the project "Pedagogical Heritage of Russia.  Janusz Korczak" and detachment evenings dedicated to the 145th anniversary of Janusz Korczak's birth. The children will also take part in the All-Russian campaign "Thank you, teacher!".

Within the framework of the All-Russian project "Without Statute of Limitations" there will be a memorial action "To Remember is to Know"; a conversation with the author of the book "How to Protect Your History" by V.G. Kiknadze; Requiem of Memory dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Heroes of the Artek; educational excursions to the memorial complex to the victims of the fascist occupation of Crimea in 1941-1944. "Concentration Camp "Krasny".

On August 2 at the "Meeting before parting" the Artek students will sum up the results of the international shift - children from different countries will say goodbye to the children's center, to their new friends and promise each other to keep the friendship gained in Artek and to be faithful to the motto "an Artek student today is an Artek student always".
